The game

A tile-laying strategy game of clever placement.

Carcassonne is a tile-laying strategy game set in medieval France. Players take turns drawing and placing tiles to build a shared map of roads, cities, fields, and monasteries. Each new tile must connect to tiles already on the board — all edges must match.

After placing a tile, you can claim a feature by placing one of your followers (meeples) on it. Completed roads and cities score immediately; fields are scored at game end. The whole game lives in that tension: place a tile for the map, or hold your meeples back for something bigger?

How a turn plays
  1. Draw Take the top tile from the pile and find a valid position — all edges must match roads, cities, and fields already on the board.
  2. Place Optionally put one of your followers on the tile to claim a road, city, monastery, or field.
  3. Score Completed roads, cities, and monasteries score immediately. Fields and incomplete features are scored after the final tile.
Win condition

After the last tile is placed, all remaining features and fields are scored. The player with the most points wins.
